Role model information

The Tnf Berlin (Tnfs38) was created in 1942 as a simplified refrigerated car design. The basic construction was provided by the previously developed Glmhs Dresden, in a welded version. In contrast to these, the refrigerated wagons received 300mm thick insulation and an interior lining with zinc sheeting to protect the wooden lining inside against moisture ingress. To ensure that the doors were tightly sealed, the sliding doors gave way to double-leaf revolving doors. The most striking thing, however, was the vertical boarding in combination with the typical white paint of the refrigerated wagons. The Federal Railway (DB) made several design changes and modernizations to the cars it took over from the mid-1950s. The high-maintenance wheel sets with plain bearings were replaced with modern ones with roller bearings or the car bodies were rebuilt if the insulation values were inadequate. As a result, the wagons retained their main dimensions, but the conspicuous box frame now disappeared under horizontal board cladding, and later even under plywood panels. New developments of refrigerated wagons at the DB later enabled private breweries to purchase a large number of wagons from the DB and use them to transport their beer. Since these were private cars of the individual breweries, they were mostly provided with the company's own advertising.
