Role model information

After a short development period, Voith Turbo Lokomotivtechnik showed the first example of the Gravita® family at InnoTrans in 2008. Five different performance classes are planned here, from the four-axle Gravita® 20BB to the “chick”, which goes by the name Gravita® 5BB and is only two-axle. Although the vehicle only existed as a prototype and had not yet been extensively tested, DB Schenker chose the Gravita® 10BB in its 2007 tender for 130 locomotives. The Gravita® 10BB locomotives are now in use at Northrail on German tracks. The DB machines commissioned are in use nationwide under the series designation BR 261. In addition to Northrail, another 5 locomotives have gone to Switzerland. In order to continue this success, the next larger sister of this series, the Gravita® 15D, was shown in Berlin in 2010. Although only 1.2 m longer than the Gravita® 10BB, it delivers up to 1800 kW and is therefore suitable for both route service and shunting. All locomotives built by Voith Lokomotivtechnik are also suitable for multiple traction.
