Prototype information

The basis for the BR 98.10 was the Bavarian GtL4/4, which was built as the 98.8-9 series until 1928. The boiler and engine were largely unchanged, but the running gear was expanded to include a trailing axle. This allowed larger supplies to be accommodated than the old GtL4/4 and a top speed 5 km/h higher. From 1929 to 1933 a total of 45 locomotives, classified as series 98.10, were manufactured. The supplier of all locomotives was the Krauss company in Munich. What was noticeable was the feed water purifier installed on the first 33 locomotives, but it did not prove effective and was later removed again.
