PIKO 51478 - Electric locomotive 194 178 DB IV AC version
Novelty 2023: The need for heavy freight locomotives prompted the DB to build a total of 43 locomotives of the E 94 series between 1954 and 1956. This also included the E 94 178, which was listed as 194 178 after the DB series scheme was changed in 1968. During the general inspection on January 8, 1976, the locomotive was painted in the colors ocean blue and ivory that were valid for the DB from 1974. However, the division of colors with a bright contrasting area at the front was not convincing due to the vulnerability in this area. As the only locomotive in its series with this paint scheme, it was also nicknamed the “Blue Mauritius”.
PIKO transferred this special locomotive to a scale of 1:87, taking into account all the special features of the model. The three-wire AC version has an mfx-capable digital decoder ex works and is prepared for sound retrofitting.
With the model 194 178-0, PIKO has set a monument to the cult electric locomotive. The locomotive was not only wrapped in the striking ocean blue and beige color scheme, the model version was specially tailored for this special machine and reproduces the original in every detail. The engine room windows are rubber-lined on the side opposite the corridor and provide a clear view of the lovingly designed engine room equipment. At the top of the rivet-free stems is a “motorcycle lamp” as a third headlight. In the area of the bogies, 12 free-standing sandboxes with sand pipes are mounted true to the original. The compensating coupling between the bogies and the replica of the wheel flange lubrication pump can also be seen. There are finely etched metal roof gratings on the roof.
